How Long Does It Take to Charge a Battery?
The charging-time estimate is one division plus one honest tail: the bulk charge is arithmetic, and the final 20% is chemistry taking its time.

Why the tail exists
Charging switches from constant current to constant voltage as the battery fills — the current tapers to protect the chemistry from overvoltage. The result is the classic rule of thumb: the last 20% takes about as long as the first 80%. Chargers advertise the bulk rate; the battery spends the tail at a fraction of it.

For healthy lead-acid charging, the charger current sits around 10–20% of the Ah rating — a 100 Ah battery pairs with a 10–20 A charger. Much faster stresses the battery; much slower just extends the tail (see charging limits).
Why This Matters
In my view: Charging-time estimates go wrong at the tail, not the division — people divide capacity by charger amps and get a number the battery will beat on paper and miss in reality, because the absorption stage charges at a tapering current nobody advertises.
Why I think so: The bulk division is exact; the tail is physics. Adding 30–50% to the bulk estimate — or better, trusting the charger's own completion signal — turns a guess into a schedule, and it costs nothing to know.
